Nipples to Kneecaps: to die or not to die with cancer
'Nipples to Kneecaps – To Die or Not to Die with Cancer' is the true, inspirational story of Steve, a man who seemed to have it all…until a cancer diagnosis threatened to take it all away.

Historians recall that the mid-1980s boasted big hair, loud music, and iconic Hollywood superstars. Mandy recalls,
“My dear girl, I have seen many a patient in my time and we cannot help Steve. At best he has three months to live…” Words that every partner dreads.

Mandy and Steve’s real-life journey throughout the ordeal of battling ‘terminal cancer’ captures how it shaped their lives, minds and spirits.

Three months to live. An unbelievable plan. A Lifetime of memories.

Who this book is for
At its core, Nipples to Kneecaps is not just a cancer memoir.

It’s for people standing at the edge of something frightening and being told, explicitly or implicitly:

“This is how your story ends.”

So who is it for?

It’s for:

• People facing serious illness — their own or someone they love.
• Families navigating fear, prognosis, and uncertainty.
• Readers who are tired of purely clinical narratives and want something human.
• Anyone interested in the relationship between mindset, belief, resilience, and recovery.
• Book clubs who want a story that holds both laughter and grief in the same breath.
• People who feel powerless in the face of authority — medical or otherwise — and want to reclaim agency.
• Readers drawn to stories where love and stubborn hope coexist with realism.

But there’s a deeper layer.

This book is especially for people who quietly ask:

“What if the prediction isn’t the final word?”

It’s not a medical manual.
It’s not magical thinking.
It’s not denial.

It’s a lived exploration of how humans behave when confronted with mortality — and what happens when they refuse to surrender their narrative.

If I had to summarise the reader archetype in one sentence:

This book is for people who want to believe that even in the darkest prognosis, there is still room for agency, humour, courage, and unexpected outcomes.

I honestly thought this book was amazing. I actually laughed out loud in places (which takes a a lot for me) and cried in others. My husband wondered what on earth I was reading especially with the title as well! So thank you for sharing your story - it is truly inspiring!

I read this book by accident. It came highly recommended and so I thought I should at least take a look at the first page. From then on I kept reading ... and laughing out loud ... and nearly missed my station when I was sitting on the train with the tears running down my face and not caring what the other passengers thought...
This is a great book - a wonderful, inspiring story. You should read it.
